Chris Pratt

Before Chris Pratt was Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy, he was Andy Dwyer. And long before that, he was Winchester “Ché” Cook on The O.C.

Pratt recently got to look back at his brief stint on the teen drama while promoting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with his co-stars. Together, they played a game of How Well Do You Know Your Castmates? with IMDB. Much to everyone’s surprise, one of the questions brought up Pratt’s appearance on The O.C. Season 4.

When asked, “Who played guitar in the nude as ‘Ché’ in Season 4 of ‘The O.C.’?” Will Poulter exclaimed, “Oh my gosh, what?!”

The clue seemed to shock even Guardians director James Gunn, who eventually turned to Pratt and asked, “Is that you?

Pratt took the opportunity to share a fun fact from filming that scene.

“Interesting fact about that scene — I do this,” Pratt said, while holding his finger straight, “while playing the guitar, because I had severed some tendons in my hand and I couldn’t bend my left finger for three years of my life.”

He added, “There ya go! Easter egg.”

Pratt starred in nine episodes of The O.C. as Ché, a student at Brown University who befriends Summer (Rachel Bilson) and convinces her to join him in his animal rights activism, eventually getting her expelled.

The scene in question shows Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) finding Ché completely naked, playing the guitar. The two share a hilarious moment when Ché gets up to hug him, revealing himself, after serenading him with an awkward song.

Gunn later admitted, “I’ve never seen [it], but I do like the theme song.”

Prior to scoring his role on The O.C., Pratt starred in all four seasons of the WB drama Everwood. It would be another two years before he landed his iconic role on Parks and Recreation.

Pratt has become an action and adventure star in recent years with the Jurassic World franchise and Guardians of the Galaxy, but he’s maintained his comedic streak. Playing a hippie college student like Ché must feel like it was a lifetime ago.
