It sure caused panda-monium.
A giant panda was saved by its breeder, who performed the Heimlich maneuver after the furry beast started choking on a piece of carrot on Saturday.
According to a video that was posted on Douyin — the Chinese version of TikTok — the panda was trying to eat the healthy snack when a piece of it managed to get lodged in the animal’s throat.
It was then that a worker — identified by their surname of Yang — rushed over to perform the life-saving maneuver.
“The giant panda got a carrot stuck while eating, the breeder rescued it with the Heimlich method,” reads the video’s caption, according to an Asia Wire report.
Viewers could see Yang rushing over and slapping the panda’s back in an attempt to remove the blockage.
After several attempts, Yang lifted the nearly 500-pound bear and shook it back and forth until it spat out the vegetable.
The China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas identified the panda as Qingqing, who was born in August 2015 and is one of four siblings transferred from the Bifengxia Panda Center at Ya’an City, Sichuan Province.
According to zoo officials, Qingqing is also known for being incredibly mischievous and has been called “Crawling Coal” by zoo-goers because he loves to roll in the dirt.
Several Douyin users complimented Yang for his quick action.
“Breeder Yang really tried his best even though he could barely hold the panda,” said one user, reported Asia Wire.
“For a bear weighing more than 440 lbs,it must have been quite difficult for the keeper doing the Heimlich method,” said another.
Other users blamed zoo keepers for the incident.
“Won’t you cut the carrots into small strips,” slammed a commenter.
“How can this big stupid bear’s throat be,” questioned another.
