NextImg:Charlie Kirk’s free-speech advocacy: Letters to the Editor — Sept. 16, 2025

The radical left celebrated the murder of a man exercising his freedom of speech (“A Free-Speech Liberal,” Rich Lowry, Sept. 15).

The day Kirk was killed will be known as the day the radical left committed suicide. This behavior is unacceptable, even for those who disagreed with Charlie Kirk.

Sandy Stafursky

Old Forge, Pa.

After the murder of 12 employees of the French magazine Charlie Hebdo for no reason other than speech disliked by their killers, the slogan “Je Suis Charlie,” which translates to “I am Charlie,” was coined as a way to show solidarity.

It’s a perfect time to dust off that slogan. All lovers of freedom ought to once again stand in solidarity with Charlie.

Ezra Huber

Baldwin

Whether one agreed or disagreed with Kirk’s opinions is irrelevant.

One of our country’s foundational principles is people’s right to express their views and compete for the public’s opinion without fear of persecution. There is nothing more repugnant to this core American value than political violence.

Stephen Silver

San Francisco, Calif.

Liberals’ disgusting celebration of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, along with the deafening silence of the Hollywood elites, will result in a major shift in the political landscape of this great nation.

The reign of liberal terror and attacks on free speech is over. The wealthy — mostly white — liberal mainstream media is gone forever. The oppressed will now rise.

Matthew Nugent

Staten Island

Since when did supporting free speech become fascist? When did believing in equality become fascist? When did “do unto others” become fascist?

Charlie Kirk’s murder isn’t an isolated incident — it’s a symptom of a rotting system where the left’s media machine manufactures outrage to suppress dissent.

It’s time to demand retractions, boycotts and journalism that values truth over agenda.

We need to fight for policies that protect free speech in our schools and public spaces, ensuring America remains a beacon of open debate.

We owe it to Charlie’s memory to debate harder, speak louder and never back down.

If we let the forces of misinformation win, America as we know it is finished.

Ben Lewis

West Hartford, Conn.

The world mourns Charlie Kirk, a free-speech advocate who was respected for the civil dialogue and debate he encouraged.

Kirk lived the words of Voltaire, who said: “I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” Kirk did just that, and the world knows and honors his sacrifice and leadership for freedom of speech.

Chris Robertson

Stony Plain, Alberta

People have always thought that America is the greatest country in the world because you can say what you want to say and do what you want to do. But that’s what got Kirk assassinated.

Gary Masi

Greenwich, Conn.

I remember when America was a country where Democrats and Republicans could exist together to better our country. Those were days when if you didn’t agree with someone’s political opinions, you didn’t kill them, you voted them out.

I strongly believe that the Democratic Party, as well as the liberals who inhabit our nation, must get their acts together, or one day we won’t have freedom of speech, because speech could be a death warrant.

Ilene Simon

Old Bridge, NJ

It is clear that freedom of speech is in jeopardy. Charlie Kirk was a person who, for years, spoke freely to college students and debated them in a gentlemanly way, only to be shut up by vermin who seek to silence all free speech.

These vermin have to be sought out and brought to justice. It is time for serious thought to be given to the radical left’s rhetoric, which is initiating actions by crazy people in this country. It has to stop right now.
