NextImg:Chargers’ Quentin Johnston has brutal drop on potential game-winning play

Quentin Johnston will replay that dropped pass over and over again in his head.

The Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver, whom the team selected in the first round this past draft, had the chance to win the game for his team down 23-20 to the Green Bay Packers in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter.

But an incredible blunder ended up being the end result in what was Los Angeles’ fourth loss of the season.

With just 31 seconds left in the game and the Chargers right around their own 30-yard line on second-and-6, quarterback Justin Herbert escaped pressure and was able to heave the ball downfield.

Johnston had broken free of his defender and was wide open along the sideline with plenty of space in front of him.

The pass hit Johnston right in the hands as he reached to make the catch, but he couldn’t control the ball and it dropped to the ground for an incomplete pass.

Had the rookie receiver made the catch, he likely would have made it to the end zone for a touchdown, or at the very least put the Chargers in field goal range to tie the score.

In nine games going into Sunday’s contest, Johnston had 18 receptions on 28 targets for 162 yards and a touchdown.

In Sunday’s loss, Johnston had two catches for 21 yards and went without a touchdown.

His only touchdown reception of the season came the previous week in the Chargers’ loss to the Detroit Lions.

Johnston has been facing criticism due to his lack of production this year.

It hasn’t helped that Zay Flowers and Jordan Addison – both of whom had been selected after Johnston in the April draft – have been making plenty of contributions to their respective teams.

Flowers has 588 receiving yards and a touchdown for Baltimore, while Addison has seven touchdowns and 603 receiving yards for Minnesota.
