Chad Johnson found a strange way to wager his belief that the Chiefs will defeat the 49ers in Super Bowl 2024.
He stated in an interview with Bleacher Report earlier this week that if San Francisco managed to topple Kansas City, he wouldn’t eat McDonald’s ever again — a surprising bet considering the former All-Pro wideout’s history with the fast-food chain as a child and while playing in the NFL.
Then, Johnson got weird with his wager.
“If the Chiefs lose, I’ll divorce my wife and no more sex for the rest of the year,” Johnson told Bleacher Report. “That’s how confident I am.”
Johnson proposed to “Selling Tampa” star Sharelle Rosado in January 2023, but it’s unclear if the pair were ever legally wed.
Former NFL tight end and ESPN “First Take” contributor Shannon Sharpe called out Johnson for his bet during an edition of “Nightcap” from Resorts World Las Vegas, especially for the part about not eating McDonald’s.
But Johnson was confident that the Chiefs wouldn’t lose because he’s “seen the script.”
“I can do it,” Johnson responded. “And look, there’s something I have that’s called discipline. That’s the best trait, the best asset I do have.”
The Chiefs, won Super Bowl 2023 against the Eagles and returned for the fourth time in five years, have revolved around quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce again.
But the relationship between Kelce and his girlfriend Taylor Swift has also emerged as one of the NFL’s most popular storylines during the season.
Swift has attended 12 Chiefs games this season and will fly from Tokyo — where she performed the latest concert on her tour — to Las Vegas for Sunday’s game, and Kelce made sure to pay for a suite where his family and Swift’s family could sit together, according to TMZ.
Kansas City and the 49ers haven’t met since October 2022, when the Chiefs cruised to a three-touchdown victory during a season that ended with Mahomes’ second Super Bowl title.
The teams have changed since then.
The 49ers now feature quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey in their offense, and they secured the NFC’s No. 1 seed before surviving the Packers and Lions in the postseason.
But Johnson, who previously used the last name Ochocinco and made six Pro Bowls across an 11-year career, felt comfortable looking past San Francisco and supporting Kansas City because the Chiefs have Mahomes.
“The Chiefs are not losing,” Johnson told Sharpe, “and the fact that you’re even betting against Patrick Mahomes is asinine.”
