MIAMI — It is possible that Cedric Mullins’ final chance to salvage his Mets tenure came and went Friday. In what might have been his final start, he went 0-for-3 with a walk and strikeout. In 41 games with the Mets, he has batted .183 with a .569 OPS. His respective numbers for the Orioles before the trade: .229 and .738.

Sign up NowThe Mets acquired Mullins to be their everyday center fielder, but amid his struggles he lost time to Jeff McNeil then Jose Siri and now Tyrone Taylor, who started Saturday and likely will start in Game 162 on Sunday.
The Mets entered the game at loanDepot Park still clinging to hopes for a postseason spot, which would provide more opportunity for Mullins to show the team and fans the kind of player he can be.
But if Mullins’ run in Queens is over, he, too, would be disappointed.
