tRY IT NOWOTTAWA, Ontario — Carson Soucy made his Rangers debut Saturday afternoon against the Senators.
The Blueshirts acquired Soucy from Vancouver in exchange for the 2025 third-rounder they received in the Reilly Smith deal ahead of Friday’s trade deadline, making New York the fourth city the 30-year-old has played for in his seven-year career.
Replacing Calvin de Haan in the lineup, Soucy lined up next to Zac Jones on the Rangers bottom pair and even notched his first goal/point with the organization in the 4-3 overtime loss.
“Not bad, unfortunately not the win,” Soucy said from inside the visiting locker room at Canadian Tire Center. “Felt better as the game went on, think some things just going to take a little bit of time to get used to just [with the] systems change. But overall, the first game, I thought it felt pretty well.”
Peter Laviolette noted that he’s liked the way the other D-pairs — K’Andre Miller-Will Borgen and Urho Vaakanainen-Braden Schneider — have played lately, so the Rangers head coach said he opted to leave them alone.

Soucy left Vancouver with his highest average ice time of his career at 18:22 per game. On Saturday, the Canadian defenseman logged 15:39 of ice time.
It’s possible that Jones could be serving as a placeholder for when Adam Fox is activated off injured reserve.
“There was definitely multiple factors,” Soucy said of waiving his no-trade clause to come to New York. “Obviously, a team that wants you, wants to trade for you, is a big part of that. Nice having [J.T.] Miller, [Will] Borgen here. We were pretty tight in Seattle. Obviously, just New York, playing for the Rangers, playing in Madison Square Garden.”

Chris Kreider was activated off injured reserve and reinserted into the Rangers lineup Saturday afternoon.
After missing the last six straight games with an upper-body injury, Kreider skated on the Blueshirts’ third line next to Sam Carrick and newcomer Juuso Parssinen.
As a result, the rest of the bottom six was rearranged a little bit.
Brennan Othmann was bumped down to the left wing of the fourth line next to Jonny Brodzinski and Matt Rempe, which pushed Brett Berard out of the lineup.
Berard had played in the last three straight games, giving him 22 contests on the season so far.
Igor Shesterkin stopped 33 of the 37 shots he faced in his 46th start of the season.
The Rangers will face the Blue Jackets at home Sunday night at Madison Square Garden to complete their 10th back-to-back schedule of the season.
