A car crashed into the wall outside Windsor Castle on Tuesday, injuring five people, authorities said.
The electric Polestar vehicle smashed into the stone wall head-on after it collided with another car on Thames Street in Windsor, England, just before 8 a.m., the British outlet SWNS reported.
“Upon arrival, crews discovered a collision involving two vehicles and two pedestrians. Firefighters made the scene safe and provided immediate emergency care to five people before placing them in the care of South Central Ambulance Service,” said the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
An ambulance and two helicopters responded to the scene outside of the famed British royal family residence, according to officials. The victims’ conditions were not immediately clear.
“People already there said someone drove out and smashed straight into Windsor Castle wall,” a passer-by told SWNS.
“There was definitely one person in the car, and I couldn’t tell if there was another. All of a sudden, there were people around [the vehicle] very quickly,” the witness said. “Someone was on the floor being treated, but it was a very calm atmosphere.
“People didn’t really know what was going on, and some were scared it was something serious.”
The roadway was closed to traffic for about 75 minutes until the scene was cleared.
Tuesday’s crash comes just days after a driver plowed his car into the main gates of Buckingham Palace in London around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Dramatic footage showed London Police officers with their guns drawn screaming at the driver as he knelt on the ground with his hands on his head.
No royal family member was inside Buckingham Palace at the time.
