Five minor earthquakes rocked California on Thursday, including two rumbles just minutes apart in the San Francisco Bay area, for a total of five tremblors in 24 hours in the Golden State.

Two quakes of magnitude 3.4 and 3.2 occurred at around noon near the city of Hayward, just south of San Francisco, according to the US Geological Survey.

They occurred along an earthquake hotspot called the Hayward Fault, and around 2,000 people reported feeling the shakes via the USGS’ “Did you feel it?” reporting tool.

Earthquakes of that magnitude are considered minor and usually bring only light shaking, but California saw five such quakes on Thursday alone, including another small quake near Hayward, and two minor shakes near Petrolia, in the northern part of the state.

The Golden State also had four minor earthquakes on Wednesday, and the largest quake of the week — a 4.5 magnitude rumble near Petrolia — occurred Tuesday night.
