Caleb Williams approves of Washington’s splashy hire.
Williams, who could be in play for the Commanders in the 2024 NFL Draft, supports the Commanders hiring Kliff Kingsbury as their new offensive coordinator.
Kingsbury, who was reportedly set to take the Raiders offensive coordinator job but pulled out, served as a USC senior offensive analyst this past season.
“My dawg congrats,” Williams posted on his Instagram Stories with an ESPN mock-up picture of Kingsbury wearing Commanders gear.
This comment from Williams adds some intrigue ahead of what will be a speculation-filled two-plus months leading into a quarterback-heavy draft.
Williams is considered by many the top player in the draft and plenty of mocks have him going first to the Bears.
There is some debate about what the Bears will do since they already have Justin Fields and have supported him publicly, but that could just a result of the team trying to boost his value ahead of trading him this offseason and drafting Williams.
While Fields is a great runner, he has not developed much as a passer.
The Bears could easily select Williams, but Washington looms at No. 2 and now just hired a coach whom Williams clearly embraces.
Washington could attempt to move up to grab Williams, but the Bears would have to either be comfortable with sticking with Fields or taking either Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye.
Colin Cowherd said on his Fox Sports show last week he heard that Williams did not want to play for the Bears and it’s possible the Commanders make the move to grab the dual-threat star, but he then reported Friday that Williams’ camp said he would play for the Bears if they made him the first choice.

Williams, the 2022 Heisman winner, played well this past season under Kingsbury’s tutelage.
He threw for 3,633 yards and 30 touchdowns, while only tossing five interceptions, and added 136 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
USC did not live up to expectations as a team, but Williams did his part.
Now, all eyes are on whether he’ll be paired up again with Kingsbury in Washington or if Williams can finally be the quarterback savior Chicago has been waiting for.
