Marion County prosecutors have charged Michael Thomas Lewis, a native of Texas, with felony stalking after he sent threats and sexually violent messages to Fever star Caitlin Clark on X, according to court documents reported by local Indiana media.

Lewis traveled from Texas to Indianapolis and was arrested Sunday at a hotel in the 100 block of North Market Street, WISHTV.com reported.

Indianapolis police met with Lewis to speak with him about the messages on Wednesday, and he said that his relationship with Clark was “imaginary.”

Messages from Lewis’ IP address continued to be sent to Clark after the police visit.

The extent of the messages is unclear.

Prosecutors said investigators were able to determine Lewis was at a downtown hotel in Indianapolis because of the messages that were coming from his IP address.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears commended Clark and Pacers Sports & Entertainment in a press release following the arrest.

“No matter how prominent a figure you are, this case shows that online harassment can quickly escalate to actual threats of physical violence,” Mears said. “It takes a lot of courage for women to come forward in these cases, which is why many don’t. In doing so, the victim is setting an example for all women who deserve to live and work in Indy without the threat of sexual violence.

“We commend Pacers Sports & Entertainment, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for the swift and serious action that led to this weekend’s arrest.”
