In his second year as a starter, the San Francisco Giants’ Jordan Hicks looks like he might be hitting his stride, posting a 2.38 ERA while holding hitters to a .171 average.
Crucially, Hicks has limited the free passes, walking just 2.38 per nine innings, which is nearly one-and-a-half fewer than last season, while upping his strikeouts per nine from 7.88 to 8.74.

Hicks’ stuff looks much better than a year ago, too, when the 28-year-old was holding back a bit as he adjusted moving from the bullpen to the rotation.
The righty is averaging 97.7 mph on the gun – a 3.1 mph increase from 2024.
The gas-thrower’s strikeout prop has been lower than you might expect for a pitcher with his stuff, given his inability to pitch deep into games last season.
But Hicks looks like a different pitcher thus far this season.
The Bombers might be taking more slow walks back to the dugout than usual Saturday.
