Police are investigating an incident that was caught on video in which BYU cheerleading coach Jocelyn Allan was struck in the head by a water bottle thrown by a fan after the team’s game against Utah on Saturday.

Video obtained by the Deseret News shows Allan getting struck in the face by a water bottle and collapsing to the ground.

Members of BYU’s cheer team and police immediately rushed to help the coach.

Allan said that she “lost consciousness” during the incident in a post that she wrote on Instagram describing the predicament.

“At the conclusion of tonight’s BYU/Utah game, a Utah fan in the table seats in the south endzone threw a water bottle and hit me directly in the head,” Allan wrote on the social media platform.

“I lost consciousness but thankfully was lowered to the ground by one of my cheerleaders. Police are going over video footage to identify the seats that it came from (we have a pretty good idea). If you saw the incident, or have any info on the family who owns that particular box, please contact me. Thank you!”

Utah fans threw debris on the field after the Utes lost at home to in-state rival BYU, 22-21.

“The incident is still being reviewed, and we won’t be providing further comment right now,” a BYU spokesperson told the Deseret News.
