Ready to break up with your basic, boring white sneakers?
Cate Blanchett sure is, at least according to her conversation last week on the Las Culturistas podcast.
“I was told, while I was wearing white sneakers, that if you were white sneakers, it means you’re not getting any. You’re not a fornicator… And I’ve been sending out very bad signals for really quite a long time, and I have three pairs which I wear. I alternate,” the star admitted.
The trio went on to discuss whether they were some type of chastity symbol. And, while some people in the comments section disagreed, we have to admit that white sneakers are a bit plain and platonic, undeniably basic, and for many, they’re just catching dust like a relic in the back of the closet.
But, colorful Gazelles… I just can’t get them out of my head. It seems like they’re everywhere: strutting around downtown, browsing the isles of the grocery store, all over TikTok, and of course, proudly paraded by it-girls like Hailey Bieber, Gigi Hadid, and Kendall Jenner.
Now that you can find a pair for under $100 on Amazon during the retailer’s Big Spring Sale, it almost feels like a requirement to snag a pair in your favorite color combo. I’m not being dramatic when I say I think they may be the sneaker of the season. Why am I so enamored?
It’s simple. They’re sleek, stylish, vintage-esque, and come in almost every palette one could desire, from deep green and bright coral to soft yellow and cream, pale blue, a rusty brown, and prickly pear shade that has us ready to march into Spring. Picking out your own pair feels partially like a personality test, given the range of options. They’re no plain Jane shoes; they’re a statement ready to be made.
Somehow, they’ve also managed to accomplish the trying feat of becoming a unisex style, also sported by Harry Styles, Brad Pitt, and Prince Harry, himself. But, besides their slew of celeb fans and casual yet confident designs, I’m also considering the fact that they’re deeply discounted during the Spring Sale.

The Big Spring Sale is an Amazon-hosted seasonal sale event aimed at popular products to shop for spring. It’s similar to Amazon Prime Day, offering a wide range of deals and discounts on various products, spanning the final week of March.
Shoppers have 7 days to take advantage of discounts. This sale runs a full week, beginning at 12 a.m. PT on Tuesday, March 25, through 11:59 p.m. PT on Monday, March 31.
The Big Spring Sale ends March 31 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time, so east-coasters have until about 3 a.m. on April 1 their time to shop the deals.
