Arrayah Barrett, the 2-year-old daughter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett, drowned on Sunday morning in the family’s swimming pool, according to Tampa Police.

Officers responded to a call about a child falling into a pool on Sunday around 9:30 a.m.

Arrayah was transported to a nearby hospital, but even with lifesaving measures, the 2-year-old was pronounced dead a short time after arrival, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Arrayah was one of Shaquil’s four kids that he has with his wife.

Police are currently investigating the death, but it is believed to be a purely accidental and tragic incident, according to a TPD statement.

Arrayah was one of the linebacker’s four children with his wife, Jordanna.

The Buccaneers posted a statement following the news of Arrayah’s death.

“Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna, and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time,” the statement said.

“While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.”

Shaquil’s latest post on his Instagram was on April 19, celebrating Arrayah’s second birthday.

“Happy 2nd bday to my cutie girl. So sweet and cute,” Shaquil posted. “You made our family complete. I love you baby girl.”

The 30-year-old linebacker signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent in 2019 and is currently in his fifth season with the Buccaneers.

The two-time Pro Bowler led the league in sacks in 2019 – and won two Super Bowls, one with Tampa Bay and one with his former team, the Denver Broncos, who posted their condolences over Twitter.

During the 2022 season, Barrett suffered a torn Achilles in Week 8 against the Baltimore Ravens, cutting his campaign short.

He finished the season with 31 tackles and three sacks.
