Bryan Cranston had nothing but praise to share for his daughter Taylor Dearden‘s lauded performance in HBO’s new medical drama, The Pitt.

The Breaking Bad star said he was “over the moon” about the reception Dearden’s received playing Dr. Melissa “Mel” King, a promising medical intern at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.

“There is nothing that’s more gratifying than when your kid receives praise. Nothing. No one could say anything to me that’s better than that,” Cranston said during a recent red carpet appearance. “Her mom and I are just over the moon with her her work on it.”

He continued, “She’s a very hard working person, she grew up in it. So, it’s in her bones. She’s in it for the right reasons and she loves it.”

Dearden has previously starred in Sweet/Vicious, American Vandal, Heartthrob, For All Mankind, and The Last Thing He Told Me. She also made a brief appearance in Breaking Bad Season 3.

Cranston went on to say that hoped he set the right example for Dearden as a longtime working actor.

“Because I’m her dad, she picks up advice hopefully by the way I behave in this business and navigate my way through,” he said, before joking, “I don’t ever say, ‘Now, young lady, here’s some advice I’m going to give you.’ Kids don’t want to hear that.”

But Cranston maintained, “She’s doing great and the show is fantastic.”

The hit HBO series, which has already been renewed for Season 2, takes place over the course of a single shift in a Pittsburgh emergency room where the physicians handle cases both big and small, only to later be swamped with a mass casualty event.

Season 1 takes place on Mel’s very first day in the emergency room, where viewers watch her come into her own as a neurodivergent, second-year resident.

Dearden’s nuanced performance has earned considerable buzz ahead of the Emmy Awards this fall. Could she one day match her father’s six Emmy Awards?

The Pitt is streaming now on Max.
