It looks like Emma Heming Willis will be joining the rest of the world in rewatching David Addison and Maddie Hayes’ romance play out on her Hulu screen. Now that Moonlighting is officially on the platform, Emma, who married the show’s leading man Bruce Willis in 2009, is celebrating its streaming debut.

“What happy news this is ✨ You bet our family will be watching tomorrow @hulu,” she captioned a photo on Instagram. “David Addison and Maddie Hayes forever.”

Moonlighting, which ran from 1985 to 1989, stars Bruce and Cybill Shepherd. It follows Maddie (Shepherd), a former model who becomes David’s (Bruce) new boss after she unexpectedly learns that she owns a detective agency.

Following its release on Hulu, Shepherd looked back on what made the Golden Globe-winning series so successful — and, according to her, it was because of the on-and-offscreen chemistry she shared with her co-star.

“I met Bruce in an office with [creator] Glenn [Gordon Caron] and my temperature went up at least 10 degrees and I thought, ‘This guy is the one,'” she told the New York Post. “I always knew not to act on it; we came close, Bruce and I, because we were both very attracted to each other, but we managed to just stop and not to fulfill that, and it had a huge amount to do with the success of the show.”

What’s more interesting is that Caron had to bring Bruce in 11 times to convince network executives that he was the right one for the role. While they didn’t think he looked like an “ABC leading man,” he said one of the few women on the team “set them straight” and they were able to cast him in the part.

“We fought for Bruce to be in the show,” Shepherd added. “He had to do a screen test and they wanted me to be in it and I said no — what if they decide they don’t want me? Bruce was funny, brilliant, sarcastic and real and we couldn’t have chosen a greater co-star.”

In 2022, Bruce retired from acting after suffering from cognitive issues. Nearly a year later, his family revealed that he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, which they described as the “most common form of dementia” for people under 60.

All five seasons of Moonlighting are currently streaming on Hulu.
