Brooks Koepka was absolutely locked in the day after capturing his fifth major championship – maybe a little too locked in.
About 24 hours after Koepka lifted the Wanamaker Trophy following his PGA Championship victory at Oak Hill, the 33-year-old was in attendance at the Florida Panthers’ playoff game in Miami, with the TNT broadcast flashing to him in the crowd.
During the entire 23-second clip that the broadcast showed, Koepka appeared laser-focused on the game, clapping repeatedly and not appearing to blink once throughout the entire sequence.
Koepka is a Florida native and describes himself as a die-hard Panthers fan, and that intensity was on full display – though fans wondered if the five-time major winner had any time to sleep between post-victory celebrations, flying back to Miami from Rochester, N.Y., and showing up at the arena.
His Panthers won the game, 1-0, over the Carolina Hurricanes, going up 3-0 in the series, and are one win away from the Stanley Cup final.
Koepka kept the party going after the game was over, apparently linking up with NHL star Brady Tkachuk, the younger brother of Panthers winger Matthew Tkachuk.
In another video that circulated that social media, Brady is seen chugging a beer out of the Wanamaker Trophy, then – after being goaded by Koepka – putting the trophy over his head.
It’s been a wild few months for Koepka, who left the PGA Tour last year to join the rebel, Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour – where he is a two-time winner.
After struggling during his final years on the PGA with injuries, he has fully returned to form, finishing second in last month’s Masters (after holding a 54-hole lead) before closing the door at Oak Hill, beating Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler by two strokes.
Following his victory, Koepka appears primed to keep the party going all week.
“This is going to be a long week for me,” Koepka said on “Pardon My Take” after his win.
“P’s game (Monday), Heat game Tuesday, Panthers game Wednesday, then gotta go up and play the LIV event this weekend. I don’t know how well that LIV event is going to go, I’ll be dead honest.”
The event at Trump National Club in Washington D.C. will tee off on Friday.
