Brooke Burke just made a major confession on Cheryl Burke’s tell-all Dancing with the Stars podcast Sex, Lies and Spray Tans, revealing she felt “so connected” to her former partner Derek Hough that she would have been willing to cheat on her husband with him.

“I would have had an affair with him,” Brooke admitted. “But listen, let me tell you why: You are intertwined with someone’s body when you’re not a dancer. There is no way that I have ever been so connected — besides with a lover or a husband — than I was with Derek.”

She continued candidly explaining the intimate relationship they forged over that season, saying, “For three months, you are in someone’s arms. Why do you think people fall in love? You smell them, you feel them, you’re breathing with them. It can be more intimate than making love in a bedroom — you’re making love on a dance floor, you feel more connected.”

At the time, Brooke had a three-month-old baby at home at the time, which added to the stress she experienced behind the scenes, and was married to actor David Charvet, whom she would later divorce in 2018.

Brooke and Hough went on to win the 2008 season together, but she revealed their partnership did not get off on an easy start.

Brooke recalled that he was “really tough” on her as a partner, though she said the “tough love” eventually made her “better.” But they had such trouble working together that the producers arranged for them to attend therapy, an experience that Brooke said proved to be “super real and super valuable” for them.

“We were completely disconnected,” she said. “We were in our own world, and yet we were a partnership, we were a team … [but] we weren’t behaving like teammates.”

But the pair were able to reconnect and came out on top in the end, securing one of Hough’s six total victories on the show. Hough is now a judge on the series.

“As soon as we changed our mindset and as soon as we got in it to win it and as soon as we met each other with honesty, something magical happened and we found faith in each other — at least I did — and we just decided to win,” Brooke said.

“One of the greatest feelings was winning — but it was also completing an experience and giving it my all, everything that I had,” she said. “And that I was really proud of. Even if I didn’t win, I was really proud of … devoting three months, seven days a week. So I left [that competition] going, ‘I can do anything!'”

Dancing with the Stars airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC and Disney+.
