NextImg:Broncos’ Javonte Williams expecting to be ready for training camp

The Denver Broncos may have just gotten their most definitive indication yet that running back Javonte Williams will be ready to go come training camp.

The Broncos running back is returning from a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee that he suffered during an Oct. 2 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders last season.

Williams said on Sunday that he expects to be cleared by the start of training camp and to be a part of some practices following team veterans reporting on July 25.

“I mean, that’s the plan. I feel like I’m ready to go,” Williams told reporters, according to ESPN.

The Broncos had maintained that Williams would be ready to go come training camp, and his words seemed to back up that confidence.

Williams has been practicing with a brace on the knee that underwent surgery and also said that he felt he had cleared the mental hurdles that come with an injury like that.

Williams, 23, has been speaking with different Bronco players that have gone through similar injuries, including wide receiver Tim Patrick and linebacker Aaron Patrick.

“Just the mental part, being to be able to move like you have your whole life,” Williams said. “For the first two months, you’re just kind of sitting in bed trying to get it to bend all over again. That’s the hardest part. [But] that’s who I got to be, that’s who I’ve been my whole life. I don’t want to get back on the field playing scared or timid, so when I do get back out there, I want to be 100%.”

Williams was part of the NFL’s All-Rookie team in 2021 and had three touchdowns on 903 yards rushing in that first year.

He had racked up 204 yards last season when he suffered the injury in Week 4.
