The Broncos’ 2022 seventh-round pick Faion Hicks was arrested on Saturday in Hallandale, Fla. on three offenses.
When police pulled over the NFLer for “disobeying a stop sign,” they found a handgun under the driver’s seat and a magazine tucked in the center console, per the Denver Post.
Police also found Hicks’ drivers license to be four-months expired.
According to the officer’s affidavit, a “fresh cannabis” odor emanated from Hicks’ car, and his lack of a medical marijuana card, coupled with his “nervousness,” led officers to search his vehicle.
The Miami native, 24, was charged with a third-degree felony for having a concealed firearm, as well as charges for the moving violation and license issue.
He was released on $2,000 bond, according to Broward County arrest records.
The former Wisconsin Badger saw NFL action in just two games last season, appearing solely on special teams.
After a disappointing 5-12 season, the Broncos are hoping to have a rejuvenated bounce back year in 2023.
With former Saints’ coach Sean Payton now at the helm, it is yet to be determined what will happen in regards to Hicks and his future with the Broncos.
The Broncos declined to make a statement to multiple outlets.
It is worth noting, however, that the team has a significant lack of cornerback depth after their starters.
With the 2023 NFL Draft just around the corner, the Broncos might look to find some help at the defensive back position in the wake of this news.
