Brock is back.
49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is expected to return as the starter for Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Jaguars at Levi’s Stadium, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Friday.
Purdy had missed the previous two games with a turf toe injury sustained during the season opener against the Seahawks, but he participated fully in Friday’s practice, prompting Shanahan to confirm his return.
“He looked good in practice all week,” Shanahan said. “We’ll have him out there Sunday, and we’re confident he’s ready to go.”
Purdy’s recovery provides a boost for the 49ers, who are currently 3–0 (though with an only +10 point differential) and seeking to maintain their undefeated start to the 2025 season.
“I mean, that was what we were hoping for,” Shanahan said of Purdy coming back to start. “We knew it could go either way, but the fact that we even considered him to be an emergency guy last week — just talking to him on Monday and Tuesday, and he wasn’t full on Wednesday or Thursday, but you could tell it was going that direction.
“As long as he woke up today feeling good, we kind of expected it.”

In Purdy’s absence, Mac Jones took over and led the team to victories over the Saints and Cardinals.
Over two games, Jones completed 53 of 80 passes for 563 yards, throwing four touchdowns against just one interception and a 98.1 passer rating.
Despite Jones’ efficiency, Purdy — who signed a five-year, $265 million extension this offseason — is obviously the long-term starter in San Francisco.
Purdy completed 26 of his 35 passes in Week 1, throwing two touchdowns and two interceptions with a 78.8 QBR.
Shanahan emphasized that Purdy’s participation in practice was strong enough to handle game action.
“He’s always prepared, Shanahan said. “He’s played in games with zero practice, and he got, for the most part, all of it this week.”
