One of our favorite rom-com film series is being revived! The newly announced Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy will mark the fourth film in the series based on Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones novels, and will see the return of Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant, and Emma Thompson, per Variety.
According to the outlet, the upcoming installment also boasts two exciting cast additions: The White Lotus Season 2 and One Day‘s Leo Woodall, and 12 Years A Slave and The Martian star Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, which is fittingly slated to hit both theaters and Peacock in the U.S. on Valentines Day in 2025, takes its name from Fielding’s 2013 novel. The new film will arrive nine years after 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby. Fielding’s 1996 Bridget Jones’s Diary inspired the 2001 film adaptation of the same name, followed by Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004). Fielding will both craft the script and executive produce the project, while Michael Morris will direct, per The Hollywood Reporter.
According to THR, others credited on Universal Pictures and Working Title’s upcoming film include producers Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Jo Wallett, as well as Amelia Granger and Sarah-Jane Wright, all of whom will do so under Working Title. The film will also be overseen by senior executive VP of production development Erik Baiers and creative executive of production development Jacqueline Garell on behalf of Universal Pictures.
Grant played Daniel Cleaver in the first two films, while Thompson portrayed Dr. Rawlings in Bridget Jones’s Baby. As for Zellweger, she has starred in all three series films in the title role of Bridget.
In a 2016 interview with Vanity Fair, Zellweger described Bridget Jones as “a dream come true role” and an “authentic character.”
“What I love the most about Bridget is her vulnerability and her openness,” she told the outlet. “I love that she makes it OK to be imperfect. That makes me root and cheer for her every time. Like all of us, she has evolved.”
All three Bridget Jones films are streaming on Max.
