Married life didn’t take off the way they hoped.
A woman on TikTok shared that the flight she and her fiancé were supposed to take to their wedding was canceled in the wake of the Alaska Airlines disaster and now she’s begging for help.
“So we are flying to our wedding tomorrow morning, and United just told us that our flight is canceled,” Emma Degerstedt said in the video which has garnered 760,200 views and 27,900 likes.
Trying to find a last-minute solution, she found three other flights that were “not ideal” but could work. Even though she and her soon-to-be husband wouldn’t be sitting next to each other and the flight times weren’t what they wanted, she just wanted to find a way there.
But when she clicked on the option to book the 6 a.m. flight, Degerstedt discovered that it was standby — with no guarantee of getting on the flight.
“When people told me that things were going to go wrong the week of your wedding, I thought the florist would forget and we wouldn’t have flowers at our wedding, like things I could manage,” she said. “Not that like we wouldn’t get there for our wedding. United, help.”
However, people in the comments didn’t have much sympathy for the couple, pointing out that flying out the day before the wedding was a rookie mistake.
“Flying to your wedding, the day before your wedding, in the winter is crazy. Being shocked that your flight is canceled in the winter is even crazier,” one person wrote.
“I flew to the comments sooner than your scheduled flight, bc the day before was senseless,” another quipped.
“Someone messed up by telling you to fly out the day before your wedding, especially in the middle of winter,” someone commented.
“THE DAY BEFORE? In the winter? And you’re shocked?” a baffled user questioned.
Some people were a little more forgiving and offered advice.
“Call them and explain the situation might not work but they could also put u on a higher priority list,” someone suggested.
“Just take whatever they will give you. You have a lifetime to sit next to each other and trust me you’ll probably get tired of it,” another laughed.
“Girl! Stand in line with your wedding dress. Trust me. People will make sure you make it on standby. I travel a ton for business and would ABSOLUTELY give up my seat for you,” one user wrote.
Degerstedt posted a follow-up video the next day sharing that she found out why her flight was canceled.
“Remember that Alaska Airlines flight where the door fell off, that was our plane. A Boeing MAX 9. It was recalled because doors are flying off,” she explained.
“I was like how many planes of these are in existence that just got recalled? Like, do we have to call everyone coming to our wedding and warn them about their flight? Oh no no, there’s only 80 of them, and we happen to be on one of the 80 United Boeing MAX 9 planes in the entire United States.”
She added, “I have a stress rash starting now. Nothing else can happen now, right? We’re done?”
On Friday, an Alaska Airlines flight turned into a nightmare when a section of the plane blew out mid-flight, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in Portland.
Once again, people in the comments were confused as to why the couple didn’t prepare for this.
“Why haven’t you started driving,” someone wondered.
“Girl I would never fly the day before my wedding but if this happened to me I would not be on TikTok,” another wrote.
“So why not just cancel get a full refund and rebook with another airline ????,” one wondered.
Early Wednesday morning, Degerstedt posted that they managed to get a new flight.
“DIFFERENT AIRLINE TO A DIFFERENT AIRPORT BUT WE ARE EN ROUTE,” the video caption said.
