Jordan Love received a message from Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre following the team’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional round on Saturday.
Favre, who made his name playing for the Green Bay Packers from 1992-2007 shared some encouragement in a post on X following the team’s season-ending 24-21 loss.
“Great game and tough loss for my Packers,” Favre posted. “I’m sure I speak for all packer fans when I say ‘we are very proud of you and can’t wait to see what the future holds.’ Lots to be excited about. Jordan keep your chin up because I believe you can be the best Packer QB yet. Congrats 49ers.”
That’s a pretty bold statement considering Favre was a three-time NFL MVP who was succeeded by Aaron Rodgers, who won MVP honors four times.
Love had been in the midst of a rise to stardom as Green Bay made its playoff push.
The Packers overcame a 2-5 start and won their last three regular-season games to finish 9-8 and qualify for the playoffs.
Green Bay became the first No. 7 seed to win a postseason game, upsetting the Dallas Cowboys, 48-32, on Super Wild Card weekend.
Love was red-hot coming into the playoffs after his first season as a starter.
He threw for 4,159 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in the regular season and added four rushing touchdowns.
Love, who is in his fourth season after playing behind Rodgers for the previous three, was drafted No. 26 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft in a surprising move by the organization.
In the loss to San Francisco, Love — who turned 25 in November — threw for 194 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, including one that sealed the Packers’ fate late in the fourth quarter.
The 49ers will compete for the NFC Championship on Jan. 28 against the winner of the Detroit Lions-Tampa Bay Buccaneers game on Sunday.
