Brett Baty showed he can hit lefties, too.
Over his first 10 game since his recall from Triple-A Syracuse, the 23-year-old has progressively shown he can and will find his hits in this league.
On Monday’s first game of the doubleheader against the Braves, the left-handed Baty blasted his first career homer against a lefty pitcher in Atlanta’s 9-8 win.
The 430-foot shot off of lefty Dylan Lee pulled the Mets within 6-5 in the sixth inning after they had fallen behind 6-1 in the first two innings.
“Just trying to see a pitch over the plate and I got it and got it up in the air. Put a good swing on it,” Baty said.
Baty pointed to the Mets dugout as he rounded first base and tipped his helmet to the crowd.
Baty has continued to find his footing at the plate in the majors after a hot run in the minors last year.
His slow start upon arriving to Flushing, hitting 2-for-13 in his first four games, is history as he now holds a slash line of .333/.394/.467, along with three RBIs and a second homer.
“I’ve always said the game is the same throughout. It’s just the outside factors that change,” he said. “Trying to step out there and be the best player I can be. The way I view lefties versus righties, they have to come over the plate to throw strikes so whenever they come over the plate, I’m gonna try to hit it hard all over the ballpark.
“Lefty or righty on the mound, I don’t really care.”
Baty finished 2-for-5 in the first game and went 1-for-4 in the second game with a double to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning and scoring to give the Mets an early 2-0 lead on their way to a 5-3 win.
