Brett Baty’s good start to the season took a hit Tuesday, as the third baseman was removed from the Mets game prior to the top of the seventh against the Pirates at Citi Field with left hamstring tightness.

Baty was 0-for-2 with a pair of groundouts on the night.

He was replaced by Joey Wendle.

The 24-year-old has taken steps toward establishing himself as the everyday third baseman in Queens, with improved play on defense and a more consistent approach at the plate.

After struggling mightily versus lefty pitching a year ago as a rookie, Baty has shown improvement in that category.

President of baseball operations David Stearns said before Tuesday’s game that the organization was pleased with Baty’s overall play, which helped lead them to keep Mark Vientos at Triple-A Syracuse, since they wanted to make sure Baty continued to get regular at-bats at third, which left Vientos without much of a role on the major league roster.

Vientos has hit well in the minors this season and has spent most of his time at third base.
