NextImg:Braves vs. Cardinals prediction: Victory over Atlanta is in the Cards

Two World Series hopefuls meet on Monday when the Braves travel to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals.

Charlie Morton is projected to be on the bump for the Braves, while reliever-turned-starter Jake Woodford gets the ball for St. Louis.

Morton had a bit of an up-and-down season in 2022, going 9-6 with a 4.34 ERA.

However, he has had success against the Cardinals.

Current St. Louis hitters are batting a measly .188 lifetime against Morton.

While the overall numbers look good, Morton did struggle in one start versus St. Louis last season, allowing five hits and four runs in just five innings of work.

Woodford begins the season in the Cardinals’ rotation because Adam Wainwright is out with a groin strain.

Woodford is making just the 11th start of his career, although he was impressive this spring, displaying increased velocity and posting a 2.04 ERA over 17 ²/₃ innings.

The 26-year-old is coming off his best season in the big leagues, going 4-0 with a 2.23 ERA as a reliever.

Woodford doesn’t have a lot of experience in the rotation, but he’s pitched well in his limited opportunities with the Cards, going 7-3 in games he starts.

I thought Woodford looked really good in the spring, so I’m trying to get ahead of the market here.

I’ll back the Cards at home to get the win.

The play: Cardinals +108 (FanDuel).
