JUPITER, Fla. — Brandon Nimmo’s anticipated return to the Mets lineup has been pushed back additional days.

The outfielder was expected to play Sunday in the Grapefruit League, but with his right knee barking — preventing him from running beyond 85 percent capacity — received a gel injection, according to manager Carlos Mendoza.

Nimmo, who has only two plate appearances this spring, will begin to ramp up after resting through at least Monday, according to Mendoza.

“We’re still shooting for Opening Day,” Mendoza said before the Mets’ 7-3 win over the Marlins in an exhibition game. “We feel like we have enough time here, he is going to get plenty of at-bats, so we just decided to get it done right away.”

Nimmo underwent an MRI exam on the knee last week that showed no structural damage.

He spent most of the winter refraining from strenuous activity on his left foot, after receiving a PRP injection for plantar fasciitis.

Mendoza was asked at what point he might become concerned about Nimmo’s status to begin the season.

“Once we get closer to Opening Day and whether he’s not running at 100 percent, he’s not getting at-bats or baseball activity, you have to start having those conversations,” Mendoza said.

Kodai Senga will pitch Sunday in a minor league game.

Clay Holmes will start in the Grapefruit League against the Nationals at Clover Park.

Holmes — who for now is on the same schedule as Senga — pitched in a minor league game in his last appearance while Senga started in the Grapefruit League.
