NextImg:Boomer Esiason convinced Pete Alonso signing with Mets on Friday

For Boomer Esiason, Friday is P-Day.

The former Jets quarterback and current WFAN host was convinced Thursday night that first baseman Pete Alonso and the Mets would finally reunite Friday, ending months of free-agent intrigue between them.

“I’m feeling like Pete is a Met tomorrow,” Esiason wrote on X at 8:48 PM on Jan. 30.

Almost halfway through the day Friday, there is little indication of movement on the Mets-Alonso front, but it didn’t damper Esiason’s spirits when his WFAN cohorts questioned him about the notion.

“I’m thinking today is the day, and I’m thinking it’s probably gonna happen at 10:05. I just wanted to get out in front of it,” he said on his “Boomer and Gio” show, with his predicted time of signing coming five minutes after his show goes off the air.

The franchise offered the slugger a three-year deal in the $68-70 million range, according to The Post’s Joel Sherman — a far cry from the seven-year, $158 million contract he was offered in 2023.

Since then, the forces have seemingly conspired against Alonso, with the 30-year-old’s free agency coming at the worst possible time for him.

Despite his flagging offense — his WAR dropped for a third straight season to a career full-season low 2.9 — Esiason is still all-in on Alonso coming back to Queens, even if the Reds, Angels and Giants are circling, as The Post’s Jon Heyman reports.

“As a diehard Met fan myself, I want the guy at first base, I want him in the lineup,” he said. “Steve Cohen has done a lot of great things for us since he’s taken over ownership of the team and this would be another one. This would be another nice, little present for us as I believe, hopefully they’ll come to an agreement today.”

Esiason is prepared, however, if his prognostication powers happen to be a little off.

“Everybody just pump the breaks for five seconds. I put it out there, I will stand by it, and if it doesn’t happen, you can call me a jackass,” he said. “I want a full team and I want him on this team. I’m telling you, this would be like Saquon Barkley leaving the Giants.”
