The newest faces on the cast of the Sex and the City spinoff And Just Like That… have been nothing short of crowd pleasers. One notable new addition is Bobby Lee‘s Jackie Nee, who plays Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) free-spirited podcast co-host. However, Lee recently opened up about a moment on set that could have nearly been a “career ender” for him.

During his interview on Monday’s (July 24) episode of Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson, he told co-hosts Bilson and Olivia Allen, as well as podcast producer Rob Holysz about “the most horrifying” experience he endured “while [he] was [still] using” drugs.

“I was in Hawaii and I was blackout drunk and my agent calls and said, ‘They need you in New York,’” he shared, referring to having to return to the AJLT set because of Parker’s schedule.

“I took, like, 600 mg of THC and I got shitfaced,” he recalled. “I was in a blackout when I landed in New York.”

While Lee had expected to stop at his hotel prior to stepping foot on set, he was sadly mistaken, and was taken to set right away.

“My face just became drenched with sweat,” he detailed. “I remember going there, being so high and drunk, and when I was reading the script I couldn’t even understand what the fuck it was even saying.”

He also added that “it was the most difficult scene,” as he “had to cross a street with [Parker]… in the middle of New York.”

Lee explained that he “couldn’t even say the fucking first line.”

“It was a nightmare,” he continued. “I remember saying to myself, ‘This is never going to happen again.’ I had to get sober. This is insane.”

Lee has now been sober for a year and a half.

The episode also tackled Lee’s perseverance and overcoming fear within the industry as a comedian. He noted that one of his ex-girlfriends reminded him that in order to make it in TV in addition to stand-up, he needed to put himself out there.

“You have to suit up and show up,” he added. “If you don’t, you get NOTHING!”
