NextImg:Blake Snell signing two-year deal with Giants to end long free-agency wait

Blake Snell finally has a new team, and it’s not the Yankees.

The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner struck a deal with the Giants on a two-year, $62 million contract, according to The Post’s Jon Heyman.

The Yankees had held talks with Snell, though little progress toward an agreement had been made.

With Gerrit Cole getting an MRI on his pitching elbow, the Yankees could be in need of a rotation boost, and some notable arms like ex-Yankee Jordan Montgomery remain on the market.

Snell, 31, won his second career Cy Young award last season when he had a 2.25 ERA with 234 strikeouts in 180 innings for the San Diego Padres; he won his first Cy Young with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018.

New Yankees star Juan Soto, who played with Snell in San Diego, had endorsed the Yankees signing Snell two weeks ago in a conversation with The Post’s Jon Heyman.

“It would be unbelievable to have two Cy Young winners going back to back, it’d be great,” Soto said of the idea of Snell joining Cole. “[Snell’s] a great guy, a great player. Any help that we can get I would love.

“I know if he’s coming over, he’s going to help the team big-time. It’s always great to have great talent on the team. I would never say no. So it’s a great fit for him, I think.”
