NextImg:Blackhawks’ Connor Bedard shoots down ‘BS’ Corey Perry rumors

Connor Bedard handled the Corey Perry rumors with aplomb.

The Blackhawks waived Perry earlier this week for what they deemed to be unspecified workplace misconduct, and lurid rumors ran rampant on the internet.

Bedard, the 18-year-old rookie prodigy, got asked about the matter by Winnipeg media before the Blackhawks play the Jets on Saturday.

“It’s just a bunch of BS on the internet,” Bedard said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

“It’s of course been an affect on myself and my family, and that’s not fair. But it’s out of our control. It’s all just fake, made-up stuff.”

While Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson declined to specify the nature of Perry’s misconduct, he emphasized in a press conference that it had nothing to do with family members of teammates.

“I do want to be very clear on this one point: this does not involve any other players or their families and anyone that suggest otherwise is wildly inaccurate, and frankly, it’s disgusting,” Davidson told reporters on Tuesday.

It was later reported that the release came after an alleged “alcohol-fueled incident” at a team event.

“As a result of my actions, there has been speculation and rumors. I am sickened by the impact this has had on others, and I want to make it clear that in no way did this situation involve any of my teammates or their families,” Perry said in a statement Thursday.

“Most importantly, I want to directly apologize to those who have been negatively affected and I am sorry for the additional impact to others it has created. My behavior was inappropriate and wrong.”

Perry, who has been in the NHL since the 2005-06 season and is a two-time All-Star, said that he would be seeking treatment.

“I have started working with experts in the mental health and substance abuse fields to discuss my struggles with alcohol and I will take whatever steps necessary to ensure this never happens again,” Perry’s statement concluded.
