The end of the Chiefs-Bills AFC divisional round game came with a low point at Highmark Stadium.
Buffalo fans pelted Kansas City with snowballs in the final moments of the Chiefs’ 27-24 win on Sunday in Orchard Park.
Among those targeted by the Bills faithful was Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes as he ran toward the tunnel, according to a video from the stadium.
Perhaps the Buffalo fans were frustrated by watching Mahomes beat the Bills in the playoffs for the third time in the last four years.
Or perhaps, Bills Mafia was tired of hearing (and seeing) Taylor Swift celebrate as her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, found the end zone twice in the playoff thriller.
Or maybe it was because once again, a Bills kicker missed wide right.
Tyler Bass missed a 44-yard field goal attempt with 1:47 remaining in the fourth quarter that would have tied the game, 27-27.
Bills fans no doubt had flashbacks to Super Bowl XXV, when Scott Norwood missed wide right on a 47-yard field goal attempt with eight seconds remaining, allowing the New York Giants, led by head coach Bill Parcells and defensive coordinator Bill Belichick, to win their first Lombardi Trophy, 20-19.
So once again, Bills fans experience postseason heartbreak.
And once again, the Chiefs are one win away from the Super Bowl.
Mahomes, who’s already won a pair of titles, has been the Chiefs starting quarterback for six seasons.
He’s played for the AFC title each year.
But this time will be different as Mahomes’ Chiefs have to hit the road for the first time to play in the AFC Championship.
The Baltimore Ravens, who beat the Houston Texans, 34-10, on Saturday, will host the Chiefs on Sunday, Jan. 28, with the winner advancing to Super Bowl LVIII.
