NextImg:Biden’s weak leadership: Letters to the Editor — April 18, 2023

The Issue: Victor Davis Hanson’s column on why other world powers have lost confidence in the US.

Victor Davis Hanson presented a clear, succinct, 10-point list on the demise of the United States’ world standing during the Biden administration, and how it led to the recent intelligence leak that has everyone shaking their heads in disbelief (“Why they don’t fear us,” PostOpinion, April 15).

We are losing ground each day in the world arena, and our government doesn’t seem to grasp the enormity of this.

America is no longer looked upon for guidance and leadership. We are embroiled in petty name-calling and partisan division that just erodes any positive goals we may have.

I hope our leaders take heed of Hanson’s article and right our ship before it’s too late. China is waiting.

Many thanks to Hanson for his fact-based reporting on the challenges facing America.

There is certainly Biden-caused chaos everywhere you look.

His impaired cognitive condition plus his likely compromised positions with Russia, China, Ukraine, Iran, etc. will continue to feed the chaos Hanson so accurately described.

Why do the Dems, the GOP and independent leaders of Congress do little or nothing to stop the Biden-fed chaos?

Hanson listed 10 reasons why our enemies no longer fear us. I’m going to list just one: The man who occupies the White House is completely useless — actually, worse than useless. He’s dangerous.

He was permitted to hide in his basement by the media during his campaign for the presidency. That allowed him to hide his increasing senility and his lack of any plans and policies for dealing with the Russians and the Chinese. The consequences are huge and growing, as Hanson points out.

As our weak and confused president goes to Ireland, China threatens us with destruction, expands the military pressure on Taiwan and attacks our dollar as the world’s currency.

The despots have taken the measure of Biden and they no longer fear him.

Hanson knows history, and his cogent cataloguing of how this utterly feckless administration has in just two short years turned the US into a paper tiger should be heeded by every voter in this country.

Abraham Lincoln’s fear — that we could only destroy ourselves from within — sadly seems to be coming to fruition.

The Issue: Steve Cuozzo’s column on the effect of legalized weed on New York City workers.

It takes a streetwise New Yorker like Steve Cuozzo to point out the slow-motion disaster legalized pot has proven to be in New York City (“The baked apple,” April 17).

While the quality of retail service in New York City has been decreasing in recent years, the introduction of legalized pot has caused unprecedented damage to the functioning of businesses in Manhattan.

The sullen, incompetent, no-eye-contact “service” one receives at retail stores is now at an appalling level.

One only has to walk by “construction sites” in Manhattan to see workers puffing away on weed to realize how dangerous this unreported condition is.

Gerard Rosenthal

Manhattan

Thank you for being brave enough to write the truth about what pot does to people, a city and society in general.

I am 71 years old and have been strongly anti- marijuana since I was 17.

Pot’s legalization is merely giving in to a bad thing and making money off of it.
