Two high-flying offenses meet in San Diego for the Holiday Bowl when the No. 15 Louisville Cardinals play the USC Trojans.
Louisville is a seven-point favorite on BetMGM Sportsbook and that seems fair. The Cardinals had a better regular season than the Trojans, and USC won’t even have Caleb Williams in this game after he opted out.
Yeah, USC was uninspiring with Williams playing well, and now it has to play a 10-win Louisville team. Add in that starting RB MarShawn Lloyd, WR Brenden Rice, S Calen Bullock, and LB Tackett Curtis won’t play as well, and that gives the Trojans even less margin for error. This team gave up 34.9 points per game and won’t have many of its better players.
Louisville has some opt outs too in leading rusher Jawhar Jordan and leading receiver Jamari Thrash. Not having those two is not ideal, but the Cardinals are still a way more solid team that scored 30.9 PPG and allowed just 19.7 PPG. The Cardinals have an experienced QB in Jack Plummer, a good backup RB in Isaac Guerendo, and defensive lineman Ashton Gillotte will suit up tonight after recording 11 sacks this season, which was good for eighth in the nation.
