When looking at the LSU offense, it all starts with the big boys up front. The offensive line has done a tremendous job of getting a consistent push, ranking fourth in Offensive Line Yards and ranked 15th in PFF‘s run-blocking rating.
The Tigers’ success up front has done wonders for the rushing attack, as running back Logan Diggs comes into this matchup averaging 6.7 yards per carry. We know quarterback Jayden Daniels is a big part of the run game as well, and even he’s averaging 4.3 yards per rush.
However, Daniels may have to keep the offense on the field with his arm in this one, as the Rebels rank 21st in yards per rush allowed. Ole Miss also sits 22nd in tackling, so there won’t be much after the Rebels make initial contact defensively.
As for the passing attack, we need to give Daniels credit, as he’s been very efficient this season. He ranks 14th in completion percentage and 12th in yards per pass.
However, his line has not given him consistent protection, which could be a cause for concern in this matchup.
Last week, LSU allowed 426 yards of offense in its narrow victory over Arkansas. It may have been able to out-gun the Razorbacks, but if it repeats that performance, the Rebels could do a lot of damage very quickly.
Speaking of being quick, the Rebels’ pace will be a significant factor in their offensive success. Ole Miss boasts the fifth-fastest offense in the country in terms of seconds per play, and its quick-fire unit will only amplify its edges as the LSU defense tires during drives.
This LSU defense ranks 120th in Defensive Finishing Drives, and the Rebels shouldn’t have a problem extending drives through the air. Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart has taken strides this season in the pocket and enters this matchup as PFF’s 15th-best quarterback in the country.
He will have the opportunity to shred an LSU secondary that ranks 107th in coverage rating and 92nd in yards per pass allowed.
Look for Dart to throw darts all night long before handing it off to star running back Quinshon Judkins, who leads the team with four rushing touchdowns.
The Tigers are favored here on the road, and that line is a tad disrespectful to the Rebels. LSU could be in trouble quickly if it’s unable to get the ground game going in this SEC showdown.
Ole Miss will play fast and create as many opportunities as possible to put points on the board. The Rebels have the potential to create explosive plays through the air in this matchup while having one of the best backs in the nation to fall back on.
