The Orioles are hot on the Rays’ tails, and this series could bring them even tighter in the AL East standings.
The Orioles were able to get a leg up on the Rays this season as they took the first two games of the series in May. Baltimore shut down the Rays’ red-hot lineup, holding them to just three runs in those victories. However, the Orioles may have another path to victory in the opening game of this series.
The Orioles come into this matchup having won seven of their last 10 games, and their lineup has spurred this hot streak. They have been the No. 1 offensive team in baseball over the last two weeks as multiple guys have caught fire.
They will have a tall task ahead of them tonight, quite literally and figuratively, in the form of Rays ace Tyler Glasnow. Glasnow will be making just his fifth start of the season, and while he’s been solid, he has some concerning numbers heading into this outing.
Glasgow’s ERA of 3.43 is very deceiving as he’s been fortunate to keep it that low. His ability to rack up strikeouts has saved him — when opposing batters have put the ball in play, the ball has been hit hard. Glasnow has a hard-hit rate of 51% through four starts.
The Rays will have to get to Bradish as they may not have much success against the bullpen. The Orioles’ bullpen has been a big part of their success this season — they come into this matchup boasting the sixth-best ERA in the league.
