Aesha Scott

Everyone’s favorite Kiwi is back for another season of Below Deck Mediterranean. Aesha Scott first made her splash on the franchise in Seasons 4 and 5 as a second stew, before getting promoted to chief stew in the first two seasons of Below Deck Down Under. Last year, she reunited with Captain Sandy Yawn in the Mediterranean for Season 9, and it’s clear she was happy with her experience as she came back once again to lead the interior team through Season 10.

“It’s so special because the longer that Sandy and I work together, like with most relationships that you give time, we just keep getting closer and closer,” Scott told Decider when she stopped by our studio last week. “Our bond is so beautiful.”

So, whatever happened with the chief stew spot on Below Deck Down Under? While Season 3 put Lara Rigby in control of the interior, Season 4 will be bringing in a new albeit familiar face to act as Captain Jason Chambers‘ right-hand-woman: Daisy Kelliher from Below Deck Sailing Yacht. While Scott didn’t know Kelliher was going to be taking over her position until she heard about it on social media, she had nothing but high hopes for her Below Deck peer.

“I love that she’s gone there because I feel like her and Jason are such a great match, and I think she’s really going to thrive in that space,” Scott said.

As for what fans can expect from Below Deck Med Season 10, Scott remembered thinking the “story gods were shining down” on the crew while they were filming, making for her “favorite” season yet. While it’s nowhere close to as horny as Below Deck Season 12, which wrapped airing last month, Scott promised that “viewers will be very engaged the whole time.”

When we caught up with Scott, she teased more about her impending nuptials, shared why she thinks it’s going to be “mighty uncomfortable” for Nathan Gallagher and Gael Cameron to watch this season back, and revealed the wildest challenge she and her fiancé did when they competed on The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition. Check out the full interview below.

DECIDER: Last year, you returned to Below Deck Med after two seasons on Down Under. Were you happy to be sailing the Mediterranean with Captain Sandy yet again?

AESHA SCOTT: It’s so special because the longer that Sandy and I work together, like with most relationships that you give time, we just keep getting closer and closer. Our bond is so beautiful. I actually said to her the other day, I’m grateful to her because in my very first season with her, I don’t know if you guys will remember, but at the last dinner, when we went around the table and said our highs and lows, I was like, “Oh, I’m really disappointed with how little praise you gave the interior.” It was a little bit of a bite to her and she could have totally written me off after that. But she didn’t. And I came back in Season 5, and she welcomed me with open arms. And again, coming back for Season 9, she welcomed me back with open arms. Now, my favorite part of the day is when I get three minutes free and I run to Sandy’s cabin and we laugh at a meme or just do something stupid and cry laughing. She is a really special person.

You came into this season as an engaged woman. Congratulations! In the first episode, you said Sandy might’ve inspired Scott to propose. Did he ever confirm that?

No, he didn’t. But I know that he’d been wanting to do it for a while. He was just waiting for the right time, so I don’t think that she actually inspired him, but maybe pushed him along.

She lit the fire a little bit.

Yeah, exactly. And their proposal was just so beautiful.

Your wedding is coming up! How has the planning process been?

It’s been so easy. I don’t understand why people get so stressed out planning weddings. You literally sit down and choose vendors and send emails, and then they email back and they say, “Yeah, we’re free.” Great, lock it in. Done. And maybe it’s the chief stew in me. I don’t know. But I literally planned it in one afternoon, and now I’ve just got to show up.

You’ve handled much worse with charter guests.

Exactly! It was a piece of cake. But we’re actually not having cake at the wedding. Neither of us are huge cake people. So, we’re gonna do Thai with lots of noodles and lots of curry. And then dessert? I don’t know. Maybe an ice cream truck or something.

So far, stews Kizzi and V seem like a great couple of gals. What were your first impressions of them?

When Kizzi first came on the boat, instantly we had this connection. There was an energy, or a chemistry straight away. I never usually share a cabin with my stews either, if I can help it, because often things don’t go super well on the interior, and it’s awkward rooming with someone that you’re trying to reprimand. But I just took one look at her and I was like, “I know that we’re going to be friends.” So I put her into my cabin, and she was just amazing. V, as well, is such a beautiful, sweet, lovely person. She was really green. But I loved that right from the get-go, she was just so eager to learn as quickly as possible.

We just came off of what Andy Cohen has described as the horniest season of Below Deck ever. In the trailer for this season of Below Deck Med, it seems like Kizzi is going to be having some fun with the crew, so to say. As far as hookups go, how would you say this season of Below Deck Med compares to the last season of Below Deck?

Oh, it is nowhere near the level of Below Deck. I think that that’s one for the books. I don’t think anything’s going to get quite as near as that. There are multiple hookups, but it’s kind of spread out a little bit more. There are some gaps in between.

It looks like we will also see the reconciliation of Nathan and Gael, who recently welcomed their first baby together. Have you met little Kayden yet?

Yes, I’ve met Kayden. He is absolutely beautiful. Oh, my gosh. He’s such a sweet baby. They’ve done really well.

Is it giving you baby fever?

Yeah, it is a little. They’re such a beautiful couple. They’re so in love. It’s been hard for them having the baby so early on. They’re still kind of getting to know each other. And they’ve got a baby. But they’re so committed to each other and they’re doing a great job.

When Nathan first came on Bravado, he seemed ready to sow his wild oats. This was obviously before he and Gael got back together. What do you think it’s going to be like for them to rewatch this season?

Oh, I think it’s going to be mighty uncomfortable. I don’t think Nathan’s really looking forward to it, to be honest. But I mean, at the end of the day, it is what it is. I feel bad for them. Well, I feel bad for Nathan because I keep seeing online everyone’s saying, “Oh, I can’t believe that Nathan’s cheated on Gael.” And it’s like, watch the bloody season. He doesn’t cheat on her. They’re not together for most of the season.

While we are speaking about Nathan, the deck team had a bit of a rough start, first with food poisoning and then with the WaveRunner. We saw you kind of sitting back and smiling as it all went down at the end of the episode. What was going through your head?

I just thought it’s about bloody time, it’s not my department. And I was like, “It’s your turn now and I don’t feel sorry for you.” It was a bit evil of me, but I was just glad it wasn’t me this time. I’ve done my time. Give it to someone else.

Each Below Deck franchise is known to have at least one absolutely insane charter guest each season. What can you tease about the guests we’ll see in Season 10?

I’ve got such a terrible recall with things like this, but I don’t feel like we had any super crazy guests on. We had one charter guest Jack, who we’ve had on before, who likes to get drunk and demand really annoying things. But with how long I’ve been doing this job, someone like him is a piece of cake, really. You’ve just got to know how to manage them.

What’s the most annoying request you’ve ever gotten?

No, this is the thing. There’s none. I’m so bad at recall. I’ve been doing this for so long I can’t think. It was Jack, the one that was annoying from the season. He just finished an eight-course meal, and then he was demanding that he had to have Szechuan chicken immediately. And I was just like, “I’ve watched you eat eight courses. There’s no way you’re hungry right now.”

I can’t let you go without bringing up your time on Below Deck Down Under. Daisy from Below Deck Sailing Yacht will be the chief stew on this next season. Did you give her any advice about working with Captain Jason?

I didn’t. I didn’t even know she was doing it until I saw it on Instagram, which is weird because we actually talk all the time, but we must have just been going through a busy period. But I love that she’s gone there because I feel like her and Jason are such a great match, and I think she’s really going to thrive in that space

If you could do a crossover with any franchise on Below Deck Med, what would it be?

If I was gonna have a crossover with any season, probably Vanderpump Rules. Because they would get it, they’ve done hospo, they’ve done service too. So I feel like they would be respectful of not putting us through too much because they’d understand

You recently opened up about working a charter with Leonardo DiCaprio on board. Are there any other celebs you’ve gotten to meet through this industry?

I ran into Ethan Suplee, the one that was on Without a Paddle. Lovely. Naomi Campbell was really, really nice. I think my favorite was one day I was taking the trash off the boat, and I hopped off to put my shoes on, and I looked up and a meter away from me was Will Smith with his family. They were just getting off the boat next door that they were chartering and he’s like, “Yo, come on, put your shoes on. We got to go.” I was like, “Oh, my God!” I left him alone but it was amazing seeing him.

You probably meet a lot of very interesting people, even outside of celebrities.

Such interesting people! That’s one thing that I love about yachting. First of all, you’re working with crews from all different parts of the world, so it really does teach you about different cultures and ways of life and makes you a more understanding person, but then you’re also rubbing shoulders with people that you would never usually meet. So many of the charter quests that we’ve had on are from completely different walks of life from me. But we make genuine friendships, and I’ll totally go and visit a lot of them when I’m in their towns.

I can’t let you go without bringing up The Amazing Race. What was it like to do that with your fiancee? What was the wildest thing you guys had to do together?

The Amazing Race was incredible. I’ve wanted to do it since I was 13, so it felt so surreal. It was awesome doing that with Scott because we’re going to get married in March. And it’s like, what better way to bond you than going to all these crazy challenges around the world? I think the hardest one was when we did this challenge where we had to eat 15 bowls each of this super sweet, thick molasses type food. That sounds nice. The first bowl was like, “Oh, my God, this is amazing.” But our bodies all started rejecting it by the fourth bowl, and we’ve got to do about 15. I was just bawling my eyes out, throwing up the whole time, wet myself twice. You’ve got this AFL player who’s crying and vomiting so violently that they’re calling the medic in and his daughter’s watching him bawling her eyes out. It was just an absolute mess. It was so crazy. So I was very grateful when that was over.

What else can you tease about Below Deck Med Season 10?

What I will say is that out of all the seasons that I’ve ever filmed, this one has by far been my favorite. I remember thinking at the time that it was like the story gods were shining down on us. In every single charter, so much happened. I was like, “Whoa, whoa. How is this all happening?” It’s not toxic or bitchy or gross or anything like that. Like, obviously there are some elements because it’s Below Deck, but it’s just a really interesting season. I think the viewers will be very engaged the whole time.
