Based on a True Story, Peacock‘s dark comedic thriller about a married couple who starts a true crime podcast with a serial killer doesn’t sound intrinsically sexy.

Podcasts? Not super sexy. Murder? Definitely not sexy. And yet, several scenes in the series from creator Craig Rosenberg will have you temporarily forgetting about everyone’s misdeeds and saying, “DAMN! That’s kinda hot.” But there’s a catch…

The majority of Based on a True Story‘s sexy scenes don’t actually happen, they’re fake-outs often rooted in subconscious desires. We see elaborate sexual fantasies play out when realtor Ava Bartlett (Kaley Cuoco) — who also happens to be pregnant — imagines hooking up with her hot client Ryan (Alex Alomar Akpobome) mid-open house in a gorgeous bed or a stunning shower. Meanwhile, her husband, a former tennis star named Nathan (Chris Messina), drifts off and dreams of receiving a blowjob from their mutual friend Ruby (Priscilla Quintana).

With a gorgeous cast that includes Tom Bateman, Li Jun Li, and Liana Liberato, it’s understandable that these characters could have a ridiculous amount of sexual tension between them. But without a doubt, Based on a True Story‘s sexiest — and wildest — scene takes place in Episode 5, when the friend group engages in a full-on make-out orgy in the middle of a club. Or do they? Maybe it’s the drugs! (It’s definitely the drugs.) But either way, it still plays out before our eyes.

Shortly after Ruby, her boyfriend Carlos (Sebastian Quinn), and Nathan pop pills to loosen up, Ruby invites “hot plumber” Matt (Bateman) and his TV writer date (Claire Holt) over to dance with them and gives them each one of her “party favors.” As everyone’s cutting loose on the dance floor, Ruby and Nathan share an intimate moment, and a few minutes later everyone is passionately making out!

Uh, OK! That’s all the making out for now! Because Bateman’s Matt starts killing everyone on the dance floor. But again, this isn’t real! It’s all just a casual drug-induced orgy-turned-murder spree hallucination. Still, it was steamy while it lasted.
