NextImg:Barry Bonds wants Hall of Fame vindication: ‘It doesn’t make sense’

Barry Bonds is fed up with being excluded from the Hall of Fame.

The 22-year MLB legend has one of the best resumes of all time with accolades such as winning MVP seven times, becoming a 14-time All-Star, among others — but the one thing that has eluded Bonds for well over a decade is an election into the Hall of Fame.

“Yeah, does it bother you,” Bonds said on the “Hollywood Swingin;” podcast. “Sure. I’m human, I’m not some wall sitting up here [who] doesn’t care. Sure, it bothers you. But at the same time, I also know who I am. And the thing is that people have to understand … I was vindicated. I went to the court, I was in federal court, and I won my case, 100 percent. Where is the vindication of me in my own sport? That’s what bothers me.”

Barry Bonds is the all-time leader in career home runs.

Despite having an MLB record of 762 home runs throughout his career along with 2935 hits and a near .300 batting average, those accomplishments were minimized by Bonds’ connection to performance-enhancing drugs.

“I appealed that charge, and I won. I’m not under federal, I’m not a criminal of any kind, I’m not anything,” Bonds said. “[My] Major League Baseball records are still there, and I try to tell everybody this … I don’t care if they want to judge athletes on performance enhancing drugs or not, it doesn’t matter. Major League Baseball, and let’s get this clearly and straight, had a rule and has rules, OK? Whether they were broken or not broken, there were rules, some rules. My era, there was no rules.

“Why is the Hall of Fame punishing me? It doesn’t make sense.”

Barry Bonds will continue to fight for a spot in the baseball hall of fame.

The eight-time Gold Glove winner will continue to try and make it into the Hall of Fame, but the next time he will be available for selection will be in 2026.

“It’s not over … Every three years it comes up,” Bonds said. “There is a possibility, and I belong with my teammates in that Hall of Fame, 100 percent.”
