NextImg:Barclay Goodrow’s overtime heroics ended Panthers’ historic playoff streaks

Barclay Goodrow wasn’t about to let it happen on the Rangers’ home ice.

Barclay Goodrow’s goal at 14:01 of overtime gave the Rangers the 2-1 win in Game 2, leveling the Eastern Conference Final and snapping a historic Panthers streak.

Entering Friday’s game, Florida had won 11 straight overtime games in the playoffs, eight of them on the road, in a stretch that began in the 2021 postseason.

Both runs were good enough to stand as the second-longest such streaks in league history.

The Canadiens didn’t lose any of their 14 overtime contests in the playoffs from 1993-98, with nine of them coming in the other teams’ barns.

“He’s one of those guys that gets teams to win,” Rangers captain Jacob Trouba said after the win. “For him to get rewarded like that, it’s awesome. He’s a big-time player, show up in big-time games.

Goodrow, with the second overtime tally of his playoff career, also ended Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovksy’s personal streak of 12 straight wins in playoff games that needed extra time, a stretch dating back to Game 2 of the 2019 semifinals when he was with the Blue Jackets.

Bobrovsky’s mark is tied with Patrick Roy, who accomplished the feat from 1993-96 as a member of the Canadiens and Avalanche for the longest run in league history.

Thanks to Goodrow’s heroics, those marks won’t advance any further.

“Oh my gosh, that was unbelievable — it was an absolute snipe,” forward Matt Rempe said. “Seeing him score a huge overtime was unbelievable.”
