Barbie‘s music producer Mark Ronson has had no problem facing the music and confronting anyone who refuses to sing the film’s praises, including recent outspoken critic Bill Maher.

The late night host’s review of the film bashed Barbie as “preachy, man-hating, and a Zombie Lie;” Maher also deemed the billion-dollar hit “2000-LATE.”

Maher had based his critiques off of the fact that the film features a Mattel board consisting of 12 white men, contributing to the idea that Barbie is fighting the patriarchy.

“Except there’s a Mattel board in real life, and it’s 7 men and 5 women,” he wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “OK, not perfect even-steven, but not the way the board IN THE MOVIE – which takes place in 2023 – is portrayed.

Ronson, a Grammy award-winning DJ, record producer and songwriter, who also was the musical mastermind behind the star-studded soundtrack of Greta Gerwig‘s blockbuster, retweeted the comedian’s response.

“We come to this place for magic,” Ronson wrote, taking his words from Nicole Kidman’s iconic AMC Theaters ad that graces the screen before any film presented there. “We come to AMC theaters to laugh, to cry, to care… and to furiously google ‘mattel board configuration’ while others are trying to enjoy a f***king magnificent comedy.”

Since this grade-A roast, Ronson has also clapped back at Ben Shapiro, whose 43-minute-long rant against Barbie earned him plenty of “Benergy,” or what Ronson believes to be “the opposite of Kenergy.”

Ronson isn’t the first person to call out the backlash against Barbie, which has largely come from unimpressed male viewers. Comedian Marc Maron took to TikTok to call the critics a “bunch of fucking insecure babies.”

“Any dude that can’t take those hits in that movie — they’ve really got to look in their pants and decide what they’re made of,” Maron chided.

Barbie is now playing in theaters.
