NYPD Blue actor Austin Majorscause of death has been revealed as an overdose.

According to his autopsy report, Majors’ cause of death was listed as fentanyl toxicity and was ruled accidental.

The actor died Feb. 11, 2023, at the age of 27. He had been staying in a homeless facility in Los Angeles at the time of his death.

TMZ reported at the time that a source claimed Majors “may have ingested a fatal amount of fentanyl.”

The former child star was best known for playing Theo Sipowicz, the son of Detective Andy Sipowicz on NYPD Blue. His on-screen father, Dennis Franz, remembered him as “a joy to have on the set” after the news of his death first broke.

“I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Austin’s passing,” Franz said in a statement in February, per Deadline. “Austin was always such a joy to have on the set. He brought smiles and happiness to everyone.”

“Some of my favorite scenes during the 12 years of NYPD Blue are with Sipowicz and Theo. Every day that Austin worked I would greet him with a special song, ‘It’s Austin Major’s Day’ sung to the tune of Howdy Doody Time,” his statement continued. “Although we haven’t stayed in touch since the show ended in 2005, I will always remember him fondly.”

Majors appeared in a number of other projects after his five-year run on NYPD Blue. He made appearances on How I Met Your Mother, Desperate Housewives, American Dad, and many other projects.

Just days before his passing, Majors was photographed for a report by the Los Angeles Daily News about the L.A. homeless facility where he stayed, Hilda Solis Care First Village.

His family remembered him as “loving, artistic, brilliant, and kind human being,” per TMZ.

“Austin was the kind of son, brother, grandson, and nephew that made us proud and we will miss him deeply forever,” the statement from his family concluded.
