Every episode of Apple TV+‘s hit workplace thriller Severance leaves fans with a slew of burning questions. But Season 2, Episode 7, “Chikhai Bardo,” finally offers some much-needed answers.
Don’t get me wrong, when the end credits roll on the standout 50-minute episode — written by Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman, and directed by Jessica Lee Gagné — a whole new set of WTFs will be swirling around your un-chipped brains. But you’ll also have some refreshing clarity on things you’ve been curious about since the show’s 2022 premiere.
As noted in Decider’s Season 2 review, in honor of Ms. Casey (Dichen Lachman), I tried my best to enjoy each of the sophomore season’s 10 episodes equally and not show preference for any over the others. But with three especially ambitious installments that shatter the show’s traditional format, that proved an impossible feat.
For anyone who longs to watch especially major television episodes ASAP and desperately wants to avoid spoilers, consider this a friendly PSA that like “Woe’s Hollow,” Severance Season 2, Episode 7, “Chikhai Bardo,” is another night of, sprint to the couch, prepare to be amazed type of deal.
Per Apple TV+’s official episode synopsis, “The origins of an old romance intersect with a deadly present threat.” And as noted in our full season review, Gagné’s directorial debut is an achingly gorgeous, captivating, thought-provoking 50 minutes of television that you’ll keep turning over in your mind long after it ends.
Based on an Apple TV+ tease of what looks to be the university where Mark and Gemma worked, fans have a feeling we’re flashing back to learn more about about Gemma and their story. Story-wise, my lips are sealed, but to anyone debating whether they should watch Episode 207 when it drops or wait until the weekend, our advice is the sooner the better. The game-changing episode is best enjoyed completely spoiler-free, so you’ll want to plan accordingly.

Based on the early drops for the every Season 2 episode so far, we feel confident saying that Severance Season 2, Episode 7, “Chikhai Bardo” will be available to stream on Apple TV+ starting on Thursday, February 27 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
While we’ll have to wait and watch Episode 207 to get the full context of “Chikhai Bardo” within Severance, the term appears to be one of six bardos, or transitional experiences, in Tibetan Buddhist tradition, which references the “moment of death.” Because Gemma was believed to be dead, but now — because of Lumon and the mysterious Cold Harbor file — may be in a space between life and death, the episode is believed to focus on her. However, because Episode 206 ended with Mark unconscious after a reintegration-induced seizure, he may also be hovering between life and death, two identities, and close to experiencing his own Chikhai Bardo. Hmm…
Praise Kier in advance for another week of Severance blessings.
