On Wednesday we get a little MLB interleague action when the Houston Astros visit the Cardinals.
On the mound for Houston will be the impressive Cristian Javier (7-1, 3.25 ERA) with the Cards turning to Miles Mikolas (4-5, 4.23 ERA).
Javier’s overall numbers are strong, although he’s been roughed up in two of his past three starts.
The right-hander allowed four runs to both the Mets and Guardians and didn’t make it past the fifth inning in either outing.
(7:45 p.m. ET)
However, in his other 13 starts this season, Javier has allowed two runs or fewer 10 times.
Mikolas has been up and down so far this year.
The veteran has given up at least four runs five times and two runs or fewer on eight other occasions.
He did allow just two runs over seven innings in his last outing against the Nationals but did give up eight hits.
Mikolas has given up 33 hits and 15 runs over his past four starts (33 innings), with St. Louis losing all four games.
Javier has struggled recently with putting runners on base.
However, if you look at his data over the entire season, that’s not the norm.
Javier is allowing just 4.6 hits and 1.6 walks per outing.
The Astros are 7-2 in Javier’s past nine starts.
I like that trend to continue on Wednesday.
