Arthur Fils could not contain his excitement in front of his compatriots.

The French tennis star took his shirt off as he played up to the crowd in celebration after defeating Spain’s Jaume Munar in a five-set thriller Thursday in the second round of the 2025 French Open.

“If I had a body like that, I would take my shirt off also,” TNT analyst John McEnroe reportedly said on the broadcast.

After pumping his fists, the 20-year-old Fils then threw his shirt into the stands at Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

Fans were then in a tug-of-war over the shirt, with a man in an orange hat refusing to give it up to a woman grabbing the other side.

The No. 14-seeded Fils, who overcame a back injury suffered during the third set, pulled out the win after a roller-coaster four hours and 25 minutes, earning a 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4), 2-6, 0-6, 6-4 victory.

Fils now advances to a tough third-round matchup against No. 17 seed Andrey Rublev.

This is Fils’ third appearance in the French Open after falling in the first round in each of the previous two years.

Should he defeat Rublev, he’d tie for the furthest he’s advanced at a grand slam tournament in his young career after reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon last year.

Rublev defeated Adam Walton in straight sets, 7-6 (1), 6-1, 7-6 (5).

Fils and Rublev will square off on Saturday, with the winner likely facing No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner in the Round of 16.
