Arnold Schwarzenegger is saying, “Hasta la vista, baby” to disciplining children. While he raised his kids with a “strict” upbringing, he revealed that things are much different when it comes to his relationship with his two granddaughters.
On the morning’s episode of The View, the former California governor dished on some of the parenting techniques he used on his children, including one that found him burning Katherine Schwarzenegger’s shoes.
“Katherine would leave her shoes there by the fireplace. I would say, ‘Katherine, if you leave your shoes there one more time and don’t put it in the mudroom or your room, I’m gonna throw them in the fireplace,'” he recalled. “Sure enough, the next time she left them there, I took the shoes and threw them in the fire. They burned and she was crying but she never left her shoes there again.”
However, when it comes to disciplining his three-year-old and 16-month-old granddaughters, he said Katherine and her husband Chris Pratt have taken the reigns.
“The bottom line is, now I don’t have to be strict,” Arnold said. “The grandchildren can come over. I play with them, they play with the animals, I let them ride on the donkey and the pony, I let them play with the horses and with the pig, feed the dogs and all this kind of stuff.”
He added, “The discipline stuff — my daughter has to do and my son-in-law has to do. Let Chris Pratt and Katherine have the headache of disciplining them.”
While Arnold lets his grandchildren do “anything they want,” he praised the actor and his daughter for using some of the parenting techniques from their upbringing.
“Chris Pratt — he’s a very strict father and he’s a really good father and a good husband,” he said. “And my daughter’s fantastic. She uses all the rules that my wife used to use. Maria [Shriver] was a fantastic mother always and still is. And also the rules that I used.”
Earlier this year, the Guardians of the Galaxy star — who was previously married to Anna Faris — opened up about the moment he knew Katherine the one.
“You know when you’re doing a puzzle? And there’s a piece and you’re like, ‘I’m certain that’s the piece.’ And you, like, kind of jam it. And it’s like, it looks like it should be the piece,” Pratt said on The Drew Barrymore Show. “And then you’re like, ‘Is it [this one]? Oh, it’s that one. It just fits together. Like, it fits because it’s the piece that was made to fit there. It felt like that.”
