Ariana Grande still has fond memories of her late ex, Mac Miller, and their first collaboration together.
The pop star commented, “i love you,” on a fan page’s Instagram post about the 10th anniversary of the former couple’s song “The Way” on Saturday.
Grande also shared the post on her Instagram Story with the same message.
Fans took to the comments section to reminisce about the track, which was first released on March 25, 2013.
“the first thing i bought with my first paycheck was this single ???? i had it on repeat for weeks!” one fan wrote.
“10 years?!?! …and still such an amazing song!! ????????,” added another.
“This song is a very significant part of my childhood. Happy 10 years ????,” commented a third supporter.
Grande, 29, and Miller dated for nearly two years before they split in May 2018. Four months later, the “Self Care” rapper passed away from an accidental overdose. He was 26.
A week after Miller’s tragic death, Grande shared an emotional tribute to her ex on Instagram.
“i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore,” she captioned a video on September 14, 2018, which showed the late musician telling her a story as they both laughed and smiled.
Grande then seemingly addressed Miller’s struggles with substance abuse.
“I really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this,” she added. “so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else.”
The two-time Grammy award winner concluded her tribute by writing that she was “so sorry” she couldn’t take Miller’s pain away.
“i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest,” she wrote.
Miller and Grande also collaborated on several other songs, including the rapper’s “My Favorite Part” and a remix of Grande’s “Into You.”
A month after Miller and Grande’s split, the “Dangerous Woman” singer began dating Pete Davidson. The couple got engaged in June 2018, however, they called it quits shortly after Miller’s death.
Grande is now married to Dalton Gomez, whom she secretly wed in May 2021.
