A man who was taken into custody Sunday as a person of interest in the slaying of the Detroit synagogue leader Samantha Woll was charged with her murder, prosecutors said Wednesday.
Michael Jackson-Bolanos, 28, was identified as the murder suspect, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy said during a press conference Tuesday, according to reports.
Jackson-Bolanos was an apparent stranger to Woll, 40, Worthy said, adding there were “no facts to suggest” it was a hate crime against the Jewish leader, NBC News reported.
Woll, who served as board president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Detroit Synagogue, was found stabbed outside her home on Oct. 21.
Another person was taken into custody in November in connection to the homicide probe, but was later released without being charged.
Woll was killed as the US has faced a wave of antisemitism following the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, but authorities have stressed throughout the probe the stabbing did not appear to be motivated by bias.
